CONFERENCE LOCATION
Brunei Darussalam is located
north-west corner of the island
of Borneo. It has a land border
with the Malaysian state of
Sarawak and a coastline along
the shore of the South China
Sea, encompassing a total area
of 5,765 square kilometres. It
became fully independent under
its official name of Negara
Brunei Darussalam, or ‘The
country of Brunei, The Abode of
Peace’, in 1984. Since then, it
has enjoyed rapid development
and a high standard of living
for her inhabitants, but
nevertheless, retains many
features that are unique to the
country. Thus, forests still
cover a large proportion of its
land area and near the capital,
Bandar Seri Begawan, there
remains the old water village,
or Kampung Ayer, the traditional
heart of the nation. On the
coast, there are numerous
beaches unspoilt by high-rise
hotels yet easily accessible
from the modern highway system
