Mission

 

1.0 Objective

The objectives of the Centre are to promote the advancement of all aspects of Electrical and Electronics Engineering andtheir applications in other related engineering. It also facilitates the exchange of information and ideas, and keep members abreast of the latest development in different fields.

The Centre's Central Committee aims are to :

  • hold meeting at least once a month.

  • encourage the members to play their full part in contributing to society.

  • communicate regularly with IET, UK.

  • arrange regular meetings for the reading of papers

  • help members in their career development.

  • arrange regular conferences, colloquia, seminars etc.

  • stimulate interest in the Centre among members and prospective members.

  • further the objects of promoting the general advancement of electrical science and engineering in Brunei.

  • facilitate the exchange of information and ideas with members, Government and public.

  • grant premiums and prizes to motivate interest of the public in engineering sciences.

  • co-operate with industry, government departments, educational establishments and professional bodies for the interchange of information on current and future needs of Technological Education in Brunei Darussalam, with particular reference to electrical engineering,

  • set up Younger Members Section and other appropriate Specialised Sections.

2.0 The First Five Year Development Plan (1997 - 2002)

This development plan outlines a five year plan of action of the Centre. It hopes to address many areas of the concern raised. They are as follow:

  • the need to have an office space of our own.

  • the need to generate revenues for self sufficiency.

  • the need to raise the standing of IET Brunei Centre and to promote and develop new technological awareness and skills among the public in general and the members in particular. the need to plan a dynamic programme.

  • the need to promote IET to younger members.

  • the need to reach out to professional engineers and student engineers in the country who have not joined IET.

  • the need to have projects of relevant interest.

  • the need to improve project coordination and implementation.

  • the need to foster good relationship among other local professional bodies, government agency and education institutions.

3.0 The Present Situation
The IET Brunei Centre was inaugurated on 29th November 1997. The total numbers of members have increased from 144 to 166 (growth of 11% ) in a period from February to April 1998. The distribution of the different categories of members are as follow:

The Centre aims to promote its membership drive through organised activities by the various specialised sections. Due to the small population of the country, a minimum target of 5 % annual increase in membership is set, with higher growth to be achieved for the subsequent years.

4.0 Specialised Section

The Centre Committee has been engaged in the planning and organising of activities for the 1998's calendar for the Centre. Visits, technical talks and seminars have been organised for the members and non members. In order to serve the members better, the Centre has formed the following specialised sections.

  • Power and building services section

  • It and control section

  • Electronics and communications section

  • Management and design section

  • Younger member section

  • Public affairs and newsletter section.

5.0 Activities

The action plans of the subcommittees form the integral part of the Centre's Development Plans. The activities must make use of the Centre's limited resources economically and efficiently.

5. 1 Technical talks or seminars

Holding regular technical talks or seminars related to each special group's interest.

5.2 Overseas visits

Facilitating members to visit.-overseas IET Centres and places of technical interests both for professional and social contacts.

5.3 Professional courses

Organising professional courses (free or fee paying) both for the members and non-members in various fields of national and professional interest.

5.4 Professional Conferences and IET Exhibition

Organising a professional conference once in two years and an annual IET Exhibition
