Dato Paduka Buntar Bin Osman assumed his present appointment in January 2003. Prior to this, he was the Director of the Brunei Department of Telecommunications (JTB) from January 1997 to December 2002, and was the Deputy Director from July 1993 to January 1996. He worked with the Telecommunications Department since 1978.

Dato Paduka Buntar Bin Osman is an electronic engineer by profession. He obtained his Bachelor of Science in Electronic Engineering in 1975 from the University of Hull, England. He became a Chartered Engineer of the Institution of Electrical Engineers, United Kingdom, in 1983. He obtained his Master in Business Administration from the Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand in 1995.

THE AUTHORITY FOR INFO-COMMUNICATIONS TECHNOLOGY INDUSTRY OF BRUNEI DARUSSALAM (AiTi)

This talk will be focusing on the formation, the roles and responsibility of AiTi in the ICT Industry. The speaker will start by highlighting the current situation related to the ICT Industry in Brunei, particularly on the telecommunications sector. The speaker will then focus on the formation of the AiTi, its roles and responsibilities. AiTi Corporate Video will also be shown. After the presentation there will be questions and answers session.

AiTi was established by the Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry for Brunei Darussalam Order, 2001 (AiTi Order, 2001), and came into existence on the 1st January 2003.

The Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry’s core functions are as follows:

  1. To exercise licensing and regulatory functions with regards to telecommunications infrastructure, systems and services in Brunei Darussalam.

  2. To efficiently manage the national radio spectrum.

  3. To contribute towards the diversification and development of the economy through the development and growth of the local ICT industry by making it more vibrant, innovative and competitive.
