Synopsis
The information era has brought about
drastic changes to the way we process
data and translated it into useful and
vital information. The urgency of time
and the need to ensure that engineering
activities are carried out in a safe
manner require that we can no longer be
reactive to problems. There is
increasing need to adopt a proactive
approach in addressing problems in
industry today.
The field of artificial intelligence is
an emerging one as it promises to tackle
engineering applications where proven
conventional approaches have failed to
deliver sustainable and cost–effective
solutions. It is an investment
worthwhile taking in terms of resources
because it promises long-term gains,
sustainability and profitability.
Details of Speaker
Terry Douglas Jayasuriya [MEng BSc(Hons)]
is currently working with the Control
and Automation Engineering Division in
Brunei Shell Petroleum Company. He is
particularly involved in the areas of
Process Control and Technology. He has
lead initiatives involving the use of
novel and non-convectional approaches in
confronting engineering problems. His
interest in the field of artificial
intelligence (AI), particularly in areas
of identifying problematic systems using
neural networks has motivated the
deployment of the technology in the
industry.
Terry is a strong advocate of life-long
learning and always encourages and
motivates his peers to participate in
informal continuous professional
development. He takes a deep interest in
data analysis and computer-based
prediction tools. He currently oversees
the IT and Control Specialized Section
of the IET Brunei Darussalam Branch. |
