IET VISITS MINDEF CALIBRATION CENTRE

IET Brunei Branch members visited MINDEF Calibration Centre as part of their ongoing activities. The visit started with a briefing by Captain Tamin, Deputy Commanding Officer and Major Ramlee, Commanding Officer Land Engineering, RBAF and then proceeded with a tour of the Calibration Centre by Mr. Lim, Calibration Manager.

The MINDEF Calibration Centre was started in 1979 as a calibration cell and is ISO9001 & 9002, and BSEN ISO/IEC17025 Guide 25 accredited. The Calibration Centre has about 22 personnel and serves primarily the RBAF and other government departments. The Calibration Centre does the maintenance and repair of high-tech equipment for the RBAF.

The Calibration Centre provides the link between the traceability of the international standards and the equipment used by the RBAF. The calibration Centre has traceability to national laboratories such as NIST (USA), NPL (UK), NML (Australia) and PTB (Germany). Only national laboratories with agreements with the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM) are used for traceability.
