ELECTRICAL CERTIFIED EQUIPMENT IN USED
IN HAZARDOUS AREA
In general, electrical equipment
generate sparks and the spark energy is
sufficient to cause an explosion when
there is a presence release of explosive
mixture within the hazardous area. This
has led to the development of certified
equipment that are suitable for
operation within hazardous areas in
industry.
The talk provides the public with an
awareness in regards to the
fire/explosion triangle. It also
provides a brief description of the
occurrence of an hazardous area due to
the release of flammable elements (gas,
fibre & dust) in air. It also touches on
aspects relating to risks, material
properties, types of
combustion/explosion, types of equipment
protection and the National Standards &
Codes of Practice.
The talk will be followed by a
demonstration of the various types of
equipment protection, and the occurrence
of an explosion due to equipment that is
uncertified and/or of poor integrity.
