THE institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), Brunei Darussalam Network, will be organizing its first international Conference from May 26-28 at the Rizqun Hotel, Gadong.

This was reveled at a press conference yesterday by the Chairman of IET, Brunei Darussalam Network Hj Abd Rahman bin Hj Modin.

Themed ‘’Sustainable Energy Management in the Era of Information and Communication Technology’’ the conference is supported by the Energy Division at the Prime Minister’s Office and Department of Electrical Services (DES).

Session themes will cover Alternative Energy Sources, Alternative Energy Technologies, Application of ICT in Energy Solution, Technologies in Power Systems and Equipments, and Technologies for Performance Improvement.

The Minister of Energy at the Prime Minister’s Office Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Utama Dato Seri Setia Awg Hj Yahya bin Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Hj Bakar will be present as the guest of honour for the auspicious event.

The objectives of the conference are to facilitate international collaboration and information sharing in areas revelent to ICT, energy and energy management to raise awareness or serve as a reminder of the world’s energy problem; to provide a platform for researches to showcase new energy technology; to provide a platform to address the world’s energy problems and their resolutions; to increase the cross-fertilisation of ideas on capitalizing ICT in energy management; and to provide opportunities for the delegates to interact face-to-face, to establish business or research relations, and to find regional partners for future collaboration.

Furthermore, the chairman said that it is hoped that from the conference, the sultanate could gain more insight on alternative energy sources from other countries present during the conference, and to eventually see whether any are applicable to Brunei.

A major highlight during the conference will be the keynote address, which will be delivered by MR John Loughhead, President of IET, from the United Kingdom Guest speakers such as Dr NF Chin, Vise President of IET (UK), and Mr Ravi Shukla, Director of Lighting Electronics, Philips Lighting Asean will also be delivering addresses during the event.

The conference has received 81 submissions from 15 countries, of which only 12 a\have been accepted. These countries include Australia, Brunei Darussalam, China, India, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Myanmar, Oman, Pakistan and United Kingdom.

Hj Abd Rahman also hoped that more participants from interested government agencies and private companies will take part in the conference.

Apart form the conference, IET will also be organizing an energy-themed exhibition, which will be held at The Mall, Gadong. Participant for the exhibition is open to agencies or private companies are that interested in displaying their products related to energy conversation or energy management.
