Date: Monday, March 2, 2009

PTM (Pusat Tenaga Malaysia) also provided a guided tour to the ZEO (Zero Energy Office) Building at Bandar Baru Bangi, Selangor Darul Ehsan. This building integrates the Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy concept leading the BIPV (Building Integrated Photovoltaic) projects.

PTM Quality Policy, Vision & Mission

The ZEO building is an energy efficient building design to energy index of 35- 40 kWh/m2 per annual which is 7 to 8 times more efficient than the conventional office building (250 – 300 kWh/m2 per annual). It also generates its own electricity from PV panels using the solar energy and connects to the national grid.

The ZEO building is extremely low energy consumption by using:

  • Double glazing and special filter glass that allow cool visible light and reduce heat radiation from direct sunlight into building by having windows facing north and south with overhanging shade.

  • Roof lights and light shafts that transmit day light into the building interior.

  • BIPV (Building Integrated Photovoltaic) system in the building provides all the electricity during the day and export excess electricity into the national grid. During the night electricity is imported from the national grid to run the chillers for the air conditioning system. The net result is zero electricity consumption from the national grid or excess electricity is exported to national grid.

  • The building cooling system is stored in phase change storage tanks and gradually releases into the building during the day.

The ZEO building installed 4 different type of PV panels for demonstration purposes:-

  • Package A – poly-silicon PV

  • Package B – amorphous silicon PV

  • Package C – see-through PV

  • Package D – mono-silicon PV

PTM provides PV policy and framework, PV training, PV consultancy & technical advise, etc to the public who are interested in solar renewable energy projects and to preserve the Environment.
