back

IET Brunei Darussalam Network and CyberSecurity Malaysia, collaborated in creating awareness on the importance of security when being in the internet, for both professionals and general public.

The morning session was mostly meant for professionals. The speaker, Mr Mohd Nasir, presented most of the terminologies in internet safety and security. He also focused on how hackers and unscrupulous individuals and group of individuals can take advantage of our ignorance and naivety of the internet. Mr Nasir's talk was more on how hackers, criminals and fraudsters use technology to achieve their evil objectives. Professionals would appreciate his talk as it will give them a deeper and wider appreciation on internet/information security/safety.

The afternoon session, conducted by Mr Noor Iskandar, focused more for general public who are internet users, but not technical people. It could be school kids to adults. The focus of the talk would be less on technology, and more on the human factor. This is where criminals would take advantage of our natural shortcomings, such as need to belong to a certain group or people, need to be known, greedy and gullibleness. The talk also provides the audience on simple tricks and tips on how to avoid being a victim of these unscrupulous people.
